A few weeks back L and I had a little zoo date and spent a Saturday at the Denver Zoo. Neither one of us had ever been to a zoo other than the NC Zoo, which we've learned is not the norm, and we knew this would be a little different. One thing is the fact that the Denver Zoo is just a little over a mile from the Colorado State Capitol Building, right smack in the downtown district. Kinda strange to have this African Savanna exhibit with downtown in the background. The other is that the NC Zoo is almost 1500 acres compared the 80 acre Denver Zoo. We thought, "yea we'll see a few animals and be out of there before lunch." But it was nice though. The exhibits were large but not massive like Asheboro's can be, so you got to actually see a lot more animals. Instead of searching the field for the animals and seeing them at a distance, we actually got aa good look at most of the animals. I even got to poke at a few when Lauren wasn't looking!
We ended up spending 5 min or so at each exhibit watching them do their thing, and we were there for a good 5-6 hours. It was a lot of fun.
The eponymous story.
Disclaimer: This account contains monkey poo. Please skip if you are squeamish or have any shred of decency. I’m not a fan of monkeys. I think there ugly, dumb, and downright nasty. My case was proven when we approached the macaque impound area. First off, freak nasty big red butts. Then one of them has these ulcerous abscessing craters in its swollen posterior. Long story short, as Lauren was medically examining this thing through the glass and I’m standing near the exit with a scowl on my face, the badonkadonk monkey, who is standing right at the glass, defecates (and this won’t no nice and neat, dry rabbit terd). Now normally this ain’t no big deal, I clean up dog doo on a regular basis, but his swollen behind has created a ledge under his anus so, what came out did not proceed to the ground. Renal monkey’s solution was to reach back there, without hesitation, pause, or any decency, and grab/scrape/scoop his scat and fling it on the ground in front of him. It took several rounds. Needless to say he didn’t have any TP and was left with quite a mess both on his hand and his rear. I, and many others, had all I could take of that one and waited for L outside.
Heads up in the pics for the funky monkey rear.

And a video of this orangutan doing his swinging thing. Of coarse he stops about the time Lauren gets the camera out.
